A miraculous icon...

The story starts one night when some fishermen went fishing on the shores of Kanala. They caught a lot of fish so that they couldn’t believe it. They were getting closer and closer to the rocks, until a fisherman saw a light appearing from the bottom of the sea. They all tried to escape, but the nets were entangled and they couldn’t escape. Due to the fear that overwhelmed them, they asked for help from the Virgin Mary and the light became brighter. The nets were then untied, but something pushed the fishermen to approach the glowing light, along with which they saw a stick, on which the Virgin Mary appeared. Returning to Dryopida, they narrated the happening and the inhabitants hurried to light candles in Her miraculous icon.
The Virgin Mary appeared in the sleep of the fishermen and incite them to build a temple in the area of Kanala. The first form of the church was with an earthen roof and quite small in size, however it was demolished and restored in 1869 taking the form it has today.
